Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- To assist in ensuring optimum availability and reliability of belt equipment (belt, idlers, roller frames, scrapers, guards, trap switch) through good housekeeping in support of effective and continuously improved mining operations.
- Ensure own / required work area is clean at all times, including cleaning of all spillages to prevent possible damage. Ensure tools are stored at designated area. Ensure that toolbox is in safe working condition.
- Conduct risk assessment in own area of work and within span of control by following prescribed procedures.
- Assume responsibility for the safe and optimal use of conveyer belts by conducting physical inspections and taking immediate action to resolve / escalate problems.
- First level inspection and observing all conveyer belt equipment to identify deviations. All conveyer belt equipment is inspected continuously to report identified deviations in time to prevent breakdowns, damaged equipment, injuries and production delays.
- Identify blockage at transfer chute. Perform lock-out procedure before cleaning the blockage using tools, e.g. pinch bar, and hammer. Report to Control Room and restart belt.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 /Standard 8 Certificate
- Completion of a relevant, approved training programme.
- Advantageous: 3 months exposure to a mining/belt environment.
