Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Blaster with blasting activities.
- Demarcate drill and blasting site
- Placing of warning flags in designated locations within the blasting operation area
- Ensure that explosives are delivered beforehand to the respective drilled holes
- Handling of stemming rods.
- Preparation of primers
- Charging of blast holes with explosives under the supervision of the Blaster
- Conduct a safety inspection at the blasting area before commencing with covering blasting holes
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor / Manager
Requirements
- Grade 12
- Blasting Certificate
- National Certificate in Rock breaking (surface excavations) will be advantageous
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience in an open pit-mining environment
- Knowledgeable of blasting practices and operations
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Able to work well under pressure
- Be prepared to work after hours when needed
- Will be able to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment
- Will be able to work independently as well in a team environment.
