The position will be based at Bokoni Platinum Mines at Atok (Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Sekhukhune District Municipality in Limpopo). The purpose of the role is to be responsible for operating a mobile mechanised Drill Rig machine in an underground environment

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• To operate the drill rig and any duties associated with drill rig.
• Conduct pre-use inspections of the drill rig, perform brake test and
  emergency stopping procedures.
• Start-up and shut-down procedure.
• Inspect his drilling equipment (rods/ bits), inspect drill site, i.e. and bar
  down loose rocks.
• Move drill rig to the drill site, inspect and transport drilling accessories to
  the working place.
• Inspect the face and hanging wall at the drill face and bar down loose
  rock.
• Hanging the cable with the S-hooks.
• Installation of pipes, barricades & water pump to control the rig’s water.
• Installation of the lifter tubes after drilling.
• Drilling of holes for anchors at the tip.
• Participating in the early entry examination.
• Align Drill Boom with the required dip and direction and stabilise the
  machine with the stabilising jacks.
• Commence drilling at the prescribed pressure settings.
• De-sludge/clean out holes on completion of drilling.
• Remove the machine from the face at the end of the shift and park in a
  safe manner.
• Responsible for the housekeeping in the areas of responsibility.
• Reporting to control room and supervisor any breakdowns/damages.
• Report to supervisor at the end of shift on machine condition and
  location

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12, for all new applicants
• Grade 10/AET Level 4 for all Ex Bokoni Platinum Mines employees
• Have a valid Drill Rig licence / certificate for machine
• At least a minimum of 6 months experience as a Drill Rig Operator
• Literacy in English
• Competent B Skills programme
• No limitations to working underground in confined spaces.
• Fitness Certificate
• Understanding & application of Health & Safety Principles
